Open Letter - CLIMMAR

Online since 22-06-2026
Dear Sir or Madam, CLIMMAR would like to draw attention to several developments that are becoming increasingly important for agricultural machinery dealers and importers across Europe. The current environment facing our sector presents a number of significant and interconnected challenges that need our attention.
Across the dealer network, inventory levels remain elevated at a time when financing costs have risen considerably. In addition to this, consumer confidence has been slowed by ongoing geopolitical uncertainty, alongside sustained pressure from energy and fertilizer prices. The result has been a noticeable softening in demand and a significant increase in stock across the sector, demonstrating the need for further support for end users.
Our dealers and importers are navigating a particularly demanding period, facing simultaneous pressures across sales, financing, and inventory management. Regrettably, there are few immediate signs that the sector will recover in the near term.
What concerns us most is the longer-term picture. Should these pressures persist or intensify, the implications could extend and begin to affect the broader stability of the sector as a whole. In this context, coordinated action targeting the value chain with the policies behind is essential.

CLIMMAR therefore calls for a coordinated response from relevant political stakeholders and proposes the following key priorities:

o    CLIMMAR invites agricultural machinery manufacturers to continue an open and constructive dialogue with their distributors and dealers. All actors in the value chain are facing a challenging environment. Transparency and an understanding of the situation of the end consumer will be essential. A balanced and sustainable model is key to navigating the current situation.
o    CLIMMAR calls on the European Union to ensure that the future Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) provides continuity with the current framework and continues to support investments in the modernisation of agriculture.
Farmers’ investment capacity is a key driver of demand for modern agricultural machinery. Any disruption, uncertainty, or reduction in investment support would have direct negative impacts not only on the machinery sector, but also on the competitiveness and sustainability of European agriculture as a whole.
o    CLIMMAR urges European policymakers to improve the overall framework conditions for farmers and contractors, who are currently among the most affected by the ongoing economic and geopolitical turbulence with rising fuel and fertilizer costs.
Strengthening farmers’ economic resilience, reducing administrative burdens, and ensuring access to financing are essential prerequisites for maintaining a healthy and functioning agricultural sector and, by extension, the entire supply chain that depends on it. The Commission rightly identifies agriculture as one of the sectors under pressure from rising fuel costs, particularly through increased diesel prices affecting transport, logistics, and farming operations.

The challenges we are facing today cannot be addressed in isolation. We can only take responsibility for the sector and the policies that affect it if we all understand what the reality on the ground is. CLIMMAR is committed to contributing constructively to this debate, highlighting the issues facing agricultural machinery dealers across Europe.
