NRMM and tractor Stage V regulation deadlines extended

Online since 20-07-2020
CLIMMAR welcomes the 12-months extension of certain transitional EU regulation on Stage V emissions from non-road mobile machinery (NRMM).
The initiative from a number of influential Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) two months ago to postpone the Stage V transition deadlines because of the effects of COVID-19 on the industry, has officially become EU law. Regulation (EU) 2020/1040 to amend Regulation (EU) 2016/1628 on Stage V emissions from non-road mobile machinery (NRMM) was published 17 July on the Official Journal of the European Union.

With this amendment to the Stage V Regulation, the 30 June and 31 December 2020 deadlines for the production and placing on the market of NRMM and tractors fitted with transition engines <56 kW and ≥130 kW is extended by 12 months. The 12-months extension of certain transitional provisions is officially EU law and is applicable retroactively from 1 July 2020, CECE reports.

As NRMM and tractors fitted with transition engines between 56 kW and 130 kW are not affected by this extension and retain the applicable 2021 deadlines, the industry including CLIMMAR, calls on the European Commission to continue to monitor the effect of COVID-19 on the industry and conduct a timely assessment of this impact regarding upcoming deadlines, submitting a new report to Parliament and undertaking new legislative actions as appropriate.

The statement by amongst others, CLIMMAR partners CECE and CEMA can be found here (pdf).
